Big Bear Marathon

My calf was bothering me last night so I KT taped it and told Blake that if it didn't feel better in the morning I wasn't going to run. When I got up this morning I tested it out with a little run up and down his street and decided to give it a go.

It was a perfect day to run a marathon, cold and sunny with no wind and a serious downhill course. Blake and I ran together from the start keeping our pace right at my BQ qualifying time of 3:25. My calf bothered me on and off from the start but I decided to go as far as it would let me. We had so much fun running and talking. The miles went by quickly. At about mile 22 I started laboring a bit and my calf started hurting more. I continued to press on and mad it past mile 25 still on pace to BQ when suddenly my calf quit and I told Blake to continue on. I had to walk the last mile which was no fun and I clearly lost a lot of time and didn't BQ, but I loved the race just getting to run with Blake. We really had a lot of fun. He finished strong in 3:25:21.

Not bad for a bad calf. Shame you made it so far before it gave up on you.
