You couldn't have asked for a more perfect morning for a nice long slow run.  It was in the upper 40s and almost no wind.  The sky was clear and the stars and moon shined brightly.

Yesterday Teena posted on my blog "Be careful... and remember your montra." almost like she knew I was planning something stupid today.  I ignored her message knowing that I was setting my montra, "Nothing Stupid." aside for just one day.  When I was on my mission, one of my companions and I decided that the difference between bravery and stupidity is luck and I was feeling lucky today.  For that matter I was feeling really good as I took off on my long adventure this morning.  It was one of the days were I felt like I could run forever and I was set out to test if I could.

I have been planning this run for a few months and really looking forward to it.  I had never run farther than 26.2 miles before and today was the day that changed.  I didn't do any extra carb loading yesterday except have a few extra pieced of my wife's yummy homemade whole wheat bread for dinner.  The plan was to do 3 different 10 mile loops that I regularly run, but all in one run.  The first loop has a bunch of small to medium rolling hills.  The second consists of more large to medium rolling hills.  And the last loop starts with a 3.5 mile ascent of about 700 feet and then gives a nice easy descent of those 700 feet over the last 6.5 miles.

First 10 miles-- 1:18:00

Second 10 miles-- 1:17:30

Last 10 miles-- 1:18:12

Total run 3:53:42  AP 7:47

I really felt great the whole run and finished strong feeling like I could still go more if I needed to.  I hope I feel like I did today at Boston.

I went with Cade to his kindergarten class this morning for Doughnuts with Dad at 7:30.  I think I was the only dad there who had run 30 miles this morning. :)

You are crazy! Way to take advantage of feeling great. I'm sure you are one of the few dads anywhere that ran 30 miles this morning.

HOLY COW!!! 30 miles before most people even get out of bed! VERY WELL planned and EXCELLENT run! Look how consistent your effort/pace are!!! VERY IMPRESSIVE!!! TOO AWESOME for words!

"Finished feeling strong like you could go more" at that pace means sub-3 26.2 is going to be natural for you!

Cade must be SO PROUD of his daddy being the only dad in the whole wide world having run 30 miles before coming to his class. I hope you ate at least a dozen doughnuts. I'm sure the few extra pieces of Doone's yummy whole wheat bread was burned up by the first 5K. Hope you have the same AWESOME great feeling at Boston! YOU ROCK!!!

You are crazy! You should sign up for a 50k or even a 50 miler, I think you would win with paces like that. That is one heck of an impressive run!! And all before doughnuts.

What is the plan for tomorrow? How is the foot since I have not asked lately?

From Rhett on Fri, Mar 05, 2010 at 19:09:12 from 74.32.218.141

Kelli, tomorrow I will keep to the stationary bike to make sure I'm all recovered before my Monday run.

My foot has given me no problems lately. Right now I'm feeling pretty good. How about you?

Speechless

From Mack on Sat, Mar 06, 2010 at 01:04:12 from 71.111.182.118

I'm surprised that you still felt pretty strong after 30. I would have guessed that the last 3.8 would have felt to you like someone running 3.8 miles for their first time (because you had never gone past 26.2) How far do you think you could have gone? Could you have hit 50?

Anyway, congrats on an awesome run!

From Kelli on Sat, Mar 06, 2010 at 14:40:39 from 71.219.89.82

Hope you are STILL feeling GREAT!

My foot is good as well, every once in a while it likes to remind me to stretch, but nothing major here. WE ARE CURED!

What planet did you say you came from?

From rockness18 on Sat, Mar 06, 2010 at 17:16:45 from 75.16.163.45

Are you kidding me? Nice run!

From Rhett on Sat, Mar 06, 2010 at 17:37:55 from 74.32.218.141

Mack, I think I could have done at least 5 more at that pace, probably 10 if is slowed down to 8:30s.

I obviously didn't overdo it since my legs feel really good today with only some very minor soreness in my quads... a 100x better than I feel after doing an all out marathon.

Kelli, Yes. I think we are cured!!! I still roll my feet with a golf ball daily just to be safe though.

Dale, I guess my body is just getting used to running far as long as I don't go too fast.

rockness18, nope not kidding.

Very impressive, but I still think you're insane!!! Good job!
