After the long bus ride up the canyon with my brother in law, Dan, who was running his first marathon, I enjoyed seeing Fly and Kelli at the start. I felt fine and decided to stick with my plan of starting off with the 3:05 group. After about the first 6 miles I was starting to tell I needed to slow down a bit. Unfortunately I quickly fell about and got worse and worse as the race went on. I really wanted to quit at about the 18 mile mark, but forced myself to keep putting one foot in front of the other. I never walked, but I was not moving very fast. It was great to see Smooth out there cheering on the runners. That gave me a little boost. Near the finish I saw my sweety and stopped and gave her a kiss. I finished and was very tired. I was about to excite the finish area when I realized I really wasn't doing well. I went to the med tent and started throwing up and my limbs and head went all numb. After about an hour and a half in the med tent and 3 IV bags I felt good enough to leave. I still continued to commit for the next couple hours, but eventually felt normal again latter in the afternoon. I don't know what happened to me. but I do know I pushed myself to my limit on that race. 3:33:00 |
