I got out and did some easy miles last night.  I ran 5.6 miles averaged 8:08 and felt good.  I think I will take today off and then take my chances tomorrow morning with the local 5k turkey trot.  I haven't race 5K since last years turkey trot.  I'm sure by mile 2 I'll be remembering why I don't run 5Ks more than once a year.  I need to try and mentally prepare for the pain, but I am just not there right now.  I have definitely slacked off big time since SGM and no where near peak shape.  I'll report Sat. on how it went.

Ya I am looking forward to hearing you report. It is so true you have to prepare yourself mentally for those 5ks. They are just plain painfull. And on Thanksgiving I will be running the first 5k I did last yr this time. Yet not on the same course. So I want to do my best at it. Good luck going sub 19

I did a triathlon in Kingman last weekend. A fellow from Havasu did pretty well. He came in 4th.

From Andy on Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 13:27:51

Good luck with the 5k. No matter how painful it is just remember that it is only 3 miles and it will be over in no time.

From Kathie on Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 15:03:29

I am doing a 5k on thanksgiving day. Last year I too first place in my age division (only runner in my age division) but this year Kimmy is coming up to run it too. I think I will feel some pain this year!

From huans32 on Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 15:07:23

Well its a good thing that Kimmy's training isnt doing to hot then. So you should be able to beat her easily.:)

From Kathie on Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 15:19:25

How would you know if her training is going well she keeps it secret remember... sneaky

sorry to highjack your blog Rhett!

From huans32 on Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 15:30:41

LOL she is very very sneaky about it. I can only assume it is that she isnt doing so hot is why. I think the 5k is your for sure. My bet is on you.:)

Yeah, his name is Dan Kooch (sp?) He is a local police man and is pretty fast. His marathon PR is in the low 2:40s and he is preparining for the Arizona IronMan coming up.

From Burt on Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 18:18:21

Kuch - and he looked pretty fit. Remind me not to commit any crimes in Havasu. There'd be no escaping him.

From Smooth on Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 00:08:15

Rhett -- Good luck on the Turkey trot. 5K races kills me...to get out of my comfort zone. But oh, it's SO GOOD for us, and can be so much fun. Like Andy said, it's only 3 miles and it'll be over before you know it. YOU WILL DO GREAT!!!
