I picked up some new trail shoes while I was in Utah, some Altra Superiors.  I have tried them the last couple days and really like them.  They have a very large toe box and lots of cushion in the forefoot and are very light and flexible for a trail shoe.  So far they're great.

25 miles on a beautiful morning.

I did the first 7 solo and then Blake joined me for the last 18.  It was great to get out and do a nice slow long run with Blake again.  It's good mental therapy for me. :)

18 trail miles.

The first hour was in the dark, using my knuckle lights to navigate the very technical desert trails.  I was happy how good my legs felt after yesterday's 25 mile run.

91 miles for the week! Another new all time weekly high for me.

16 trail miles this morning before the sun rose.

My legs were tired, as expected after running 31 yesterday, but not sore. I was very happy about that.

I just hit my first 100 mile week ever!  Tomorrow will be a well deserved day of rest.

After falling 3 times on my trail run yesterday, I needed a mentally easy, turn my brain off run, so I ran 2 miles to the gym, jumped on the TM with my headphones on, set it to 7.5 mph, ran for 2 hours on cruise control, then ran back home.

Total run 19 miles

I felt much better today on the trails after yesterdays mental break on the TM.

16 miles, finished fast and strong, and stayed upright the whole way.

I was planning on following up my 33 miler yesterday with a 20 miler today, but...

An extreme, acute pain in my lower right abdomen woke me this morning about 1:30.  I tried all sorts of things to see if it would go away but the pain just kept increasing.  At 3:30 AM I checked myself into the ER thinking I might have an appendicitis.  After some blood work, a urine sample, and a CT scan, it was determined I was passing a kidney stone.  They game me some real nice drugs, monitored me for a while, and sent me home.  I was back in bed feeling pretty good by 6:00.

I woke up a little before 9:00 and was feeling good, so I threw on my trail running gear.  When I walked into the kitchen, my wife looked at me like I was crazy, heading out for a run after the night I had.  I went anyways but cut my previously planned 20 miler to a 12 mile trail run.  It was a beautiful morning and I felt really good...probably the lingering effects of the narcotics.

One funny thing at the hospital...when they first sat me down and hooked me up the the machines, the nurse had a panicked look and ask me if it was normal that I had a really low heart rate. It was at 42.  I simply said, "yes, I run a lot."  Then for the rest of the time I was there, I kept hearing him warn everyone who would come into my room,  not to worry about how low my heart rate was.

My last longish run before my race.

TM for 20 miles at 8:00 pace.

Avg HR 131

Let the serious taper begin now!  10 more days.

I find this run quite remarkable.  Six months ago I started doing all my running by HR keeping at or below 141.  Six months ago, to keep my HR at or below 141 for just 1 mile on the TM, it took me 8:30.  Today I did 20 miles at 8:00 pace and averaged a HR 131.  I think that is crazy.

Oh, and I went over 400 miles for the month today. I had never gone over 300 miles for a month before this month.
