MORNING

I did a nice tempo run this morning.  1 mile warm up, 5 miles at 6:30, 1 mile cool down.  The good part is I felt like I could keep going a while after finishing the 5 fast miles.  I'm training like I will be running Painters.  I ran it by my wife last night and she was good with it, so I'm now 99% sure I'll be running it.

EVENING

30 min plyometrics

Rhett...

Sweet!!! I bet you could take Painter's or at least come close.

How tall are you and how much do you weight? You look like you have the same build that I have. Of course, you are in much better shape.

From Teena on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 13:03:55

Here's my guess ... Rhett looks like he is about 5' 11" and 155ish. (That's a total guess ... I'm really not good at guessing stuff like this, but I thought it would be fun.)

From Teena on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 13:04:52

Actually, probably more like 150ish.

From Teena on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 13:07:27

Hmmm ... now I'm panicking, maybe 145ish!! :) (Am I headed in the right direction?)

From DonGardinero on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 13:17:09

Teena....

You're so funny. Well, if that's his build, then I wasn't even close. LOL!!!

From Andy on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 14:03:19

Cool - another contest. I'm going to guess 5' 9" and 145 pounds.

From Kathie on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 14:09:28

The only time I have seen Rhett was while he was sitting by the fire so total guess here... 5'11" and 149

From DonGardinero on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 14:48:21

I'm going to guess 5'11" and 170. This is fun.

From Smooth on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 16:21:07

I saw Rhett for one second at the firepit. 5'10" 147.

Oh, I love the pic. Your boy is so cute. Does he have a BYU shirt on? Is he a Cougar fan? I really like your shirt. I have one too and wear it all the time.

Oh, it's a good sign that you want to run more after that neck breaking pace. You're gonna break the tape at Painter's. I still haven't registered yet. My hubby keeps telling me to hurry and register for all these races already. I'm SLOW at everything I do.

From Rhett on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 16:50:17

You guys are hillarious. Especially you Teena, worrying about the weight. I am 5'10" and that day I weighed around 165. I like to race at 155 usually. I was 157 at SGM. The lightest I ever raced at was 152, my first Boston and I loved how I felt at that weight.

Smooth, yes that is a BYU shirt. He is an avid fan.

And no, I won't even come close to breaking the tape at Painters, but I do hope to PR.

From Teena on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 16:52:53

So, 5'10" and 165, huh? All muscle I presume!! :)

From Smooth on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 16:59:04

Hey, I got the right height and the BYU shirt..not bad for 2 out of 3. You looked skinnier than 165, must be muscle weight from all that weight training. Oh, don't get one of those "flu weight loss" bug like you did last year to shed the extra. What's a Half PR for you?

From Rhett on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 20:33:48

The only other half I've ever done was last year at the end of that flu where I was down to 148. I guess that is the lowest weight I've ever raced at, but it was horrible. I don't even remember my time, but it was like 1:39 or something. I ran the second half of SGM in just under 1:28, so I guess that is my half PR.

From Smooth on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 23:49:08

Hey I was close guessing your weight when you were the lowest. Didn't your weight stay there thru Boston?

1:28...yeah, you can do it. Painter's real crowded. Wish they use chips. Ya gotta line up in the front. That was an AWESOME tempo run this morning, BTW.

From Teena on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 23:59:14

Hey Rhett, I have a question for you. Do you eat anything after your evening workout? I'm confused on whether I should or not. Anyone?

From huans32 on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 11:39:29

Great run there Rhett. And dang I missed out on the guessing game dang it. Teena you should always drink and eat after your workouts. Best time is a hr. You get the most benefit in the first 15 mins too. Or so they say.

That is great to hear that your going to be at Painters I am really looking forward to it and I better get on getting a room down there and signing up for it.

From Smooth on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 14:10:29

I think I deserve a prize for coming the closest with the guessing contest. Teena or Andy or whoever started this contest owes me a prize. What's the prize? hmm...I really need an elliptical, one of those irongym bar thingie, Bowl game tickets...alright, I'll settle for a pop-tart.:)

From RivertonPaul on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 15:09:44

I'm going to guess, based on the photo, 5' 10" and 165lbs.

From Rhett on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 15:26:04

Teena, I eat after every workout I do. At night I try and keep it small though. Some mild protein and carbs. I always try and eat as soon as possible after a workout for optimal recovery.

Smooth, Painters doesn't have chip timing? Bummer. I'll just have to try and get close to the front I guess.

Paul, what an amazing guess!!!

From Teena on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 15:27:49

Paul,

Those are some mad guessing skills you have!!

Smooth,

Hmmmm .... elliptical? Probably not ... Irongym? Highly doubtful ... Pop-tart? Totally doable ... I will even dip it in really dark chocolate for you!!

From RivertonPaul on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 15:28:19

Rhett, I admit that I was unfairly assisted from all that time I saw you as you ran away from me at SGM.

From Andy on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 15:36:13

Smooth - do you know anything about the Irongym bar? I saw one at Walgreens for $20. I didn't get it because I thought that it may ruin my door or not be effective because I am too tall. (Sorry to hijack your blog Rhett).

From Teena on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 15:42:47

Andy, you should get it. That's what I use. It's not ruining my door at all and Ryan is using it as well (he's about 6' 3"). $20 is a steal ... mine was $30 at Dicks Sporting.

From Smooth on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 15:48:54

Andy, here's the one I'm looking at http://www.tryirongym.com/?mid=526262 It's an As Seen On TV product. This one doesn't ruin doors. My son-in-law uses it. He's 6'4" and finds it pretty effective. Not sure how high his doorway is though.

From Teena on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 15:52:45

That's the one I have!! They wanted me to be on their commercial ... strong, lean, and ripped and all ... but they didn't want me intimidating all of the boys. Stink. Maybe next year!

From montelepsy on Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 13:13:29

Rhett,

What do you do for plyos? I was thinking of incorporating them and I'm looking for suggestions.

From Rhett on Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 13:47:25

It is hard to explain exactly, but I use a big wood box that is probably 2 1/2 ft tall. I jump up and down on it. I do one leg jumps off it from side to side. I do step ups (can't explain, sorry). I do a lot of bounding since that is pretty running specific. I also do large exaggerated skipping. What else? I jump up and down in place with my thighs hitting my chest. Really just any type of explosive jumping. Search it on the web and you'll get lots of ideas with good descriptions on how to do it. Hope that helped. Have fun.

From montelepsy on Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 14:40:57

Sounds like recess :)

I'll try the skipping and bounding. Thanks.

How in the world y'all find the time to keep up with everyone's blogs is beyond me. I just happened to see this because it is listed as a "Hot Discussions." But I'm glad I did. I'll see you at Painter's Rhett!

If only you weren't so fast, I'd try to keep up with you. 6:30! I'm a little closer on the height and weight, within 1/2" and about 20 lbs.
