Running with Doone was one of the highlights of my trip.  It is just great to be out with your sweetie on a cool summer morning and running and talking.  She is training for a 1/2 over Labor Day and had an 8 miler planned.  I let her set the pace.  It was nice and easy averaging around 9:30 minutes, so it was perfect for me not to push the foot.  I figured I'd run as long as I could and then stop and let her go on.  We really had a good time running a chatting around the turnaround point I started feeling a slight discomfort in my foot soon it started to increase, so I stopped and told her to go on.  As I walked the pain increased to a pretty intense level.  How wondered how in the world I ever ran a full marathon on that thing.  She finally came back in the car and rescued me.  For the next few days my pain level was very high, a few time almost bringing me to my knees when I stepped wrong.  I am going to call the doc today and get it looked at again.  I figure he'll just tell me to wear my boot and rest it longer, but I better let him look at it.  It doesn't look like I'll be doing TOU.  What a disappointment.

I'm sorry to hear that, Rhett, but I'm glad you had a good time on your trip.

Rhett, I am so sorry. I know you must feel so discouraged right now. Can you see a different doc? One who is a runner per chance?

Btw, how do you say your wife's name? I have only seen her once for a very short moment at that Pizza place. She is gorgeous! I'm sure you don't mind running a slower pace if you get to run with her!!!

So sorry Rhett. Please let us know what the doc says.

(I am so sad that you will not be running TOU ... but more sad that your run didn't turn out the way you had hoped. I'm so mad at your foot!!!)

Oh say it isn't so!!! I am sorry Rhett you have been so good! I thought you would have been better by now! I am with Teena maybe a different doctor can give you other options, or a magic pill that will fix it in a day! Most likely any doctor is going to tell you wear the boot and rest though.

Tough luck. Hope the Doc has some miracle cure for you.

Oh Rhett! I am so sorry to hear that your run with Doone didn't end the way it started. It must be discouraging for you. I hope you can find a doctor who can give you answers and proper treatment. Hang in there. You've been so dedicated in your xtraining. You will overcome this challenge and run again!!! Please keep us posted and know that we're thinking of you!!!

Are your parents getting ready to leave for Africa or have they already left?

From Huans32 on Wed, Jul 08, 2009 at 14:35:24 from 138.64.2.76

Man oh man that is a bummer. Yet it is good that you were able to get a few miles in before it really started to hurt. Sounds alot like my foot when I hurt it last year. Testing it every so often to see if its better only to find it still giving you grief. Its great though that your able to hit the gym and do some elliptical and that arc trainer if they can ever keep it up and going right. I feel for you man. Dont worry to much you will be back at it soon enough. And hopefully your Doc will give you some good answers for you. Keep us posted. Really to how did you run on that and so fast. Your an animal!!!

Thanks everyone for your sympathies. I made an appointment to see the doc tomorrow afternoon. I'll keep you posted on the results.

Teena, my wife's name is Doone pronouced like dune. It is a Scotish name and was then name of her mom's aunt. My doc is a runner, that is how I chose him, but I may need to get a second opinion based on what I'm told tomorrow.

Smooth, my parents check into the MTC on Monday and then head out to Africa, 2 weeks later. It sounds like they will be spending their mission in Tansania not Kenya. It will all be very interesting to follow.

sorry to hear the pain is still there, man. I'm pulling for you --

From Smooth on Thu, Jul 09, 2009 at 21:16:07 from 71.36.86.86

How did the doctor visit go today? Hope he has some good answers. There are new advances in podiatry nowadays. It's good to check out all your options.

Wow, your parents must be so excited. I am excited for them. This is a good time to be in the MTC as they just got done with new mission presidents training. Tansania! Sounds exotic and adventurous. Hope they have email service so you can communicate at ease.

Smooth, yeah my parents are really excited. The cool thing is, I'm going to be up there visiting my sister the week before they leave for Africa and that week they will be staying at my sister's house, not the MTC since they will be doing training in SLC that week. So, I'll get to see them one last time before they take off.

I'll blog my Dr. appointment on todays date.

From Smooth on Fri, Jul 10, 2009 at 16:29:20 from 71.32.236.21

Aww, that's nice! You will have a wonderful time with your parents and sister; and they will LOVE it!!!
