It was a very dark morning, so dark that I almost ran off the road a couple times.  It's a weird feeling when you can't see the road in front of you.

I started off a little sluggishly for the first few miles and then I seemed to settle into a nice groove.  I did my 10 mile loop with the 1st 3.5 miles climbing 700+ feet and then a nice easy descent over the next 6.5 miles.  I did it twice to get in my 20 miles.  The first loop I ran in 1:18:10.  I was suprised to see I had done it that fast in that I kind of felt like I was sleep walking through that first loop.  In my never ending quest for negative splits I picked it up a bit on the second loop and ran it in 1:14:54.

Total run 20 miles,  2:33:04,  AP 7:39

I was feeling good with a couple miles to go so I let the horses run and averaged 6:33 over the last 2 miles.  I hope I don't pay for that on Monday when I head out for my run.

Wow Rhett You are looking so good I think you might just go sub 3 at Boston...but then what do I know.

From DonGardinero on Sat, Feb 21, 2009 at 11:51:50

Great job, Rhett...What time did you get out for your run? Sounds like a tough run. I hope you can get some rest today.

From rhett on Sat, Feb 21, 2009 at 12:18:57

Kathie, I'm going for sub 3 at Boston, but it will be tough. I may crash and burn.

Dale, I got up at 3:45 went and put out some water bottles and was out running by 4:20. I had to be at work seeing patients at 8:00. Only have to work till noon. :)

From rivertonpaul on Sat, Feb 21, 2009 at 14:47:53

You seem very strong and focused. Way to go. You are well on your way.

From DonGardinero on Sat, Feb 21, 2009 at 15:53:57

Wow, Rhett, you are more committed than I am. It's easier for me to run in the middle of the night BEFORE I go to bed. The last time I got up that early to run was when I met Slick and Mark-O up in Park City. Never again....except for marathon mornings.

From DonGardinero on Sat, Feb 21, 2009 at 15:55:12

By the way, is your total time for the 20 miles supposed to read 2:33:04?

From rhett on Sat, Feb 21, 2009 at 17:27:34

yes, it is 2:33:04 . If I had done it in 1:33:04 I would have set a world record. Thanks for catching that typo.

From Smooth on Sat, Feb 21, 2009 at 17:38:22

WOW!!! I knew you're FAST. When I saw that 1:33, my jaws dropped to the floor. You ran twice as fast as me!!!

That was an awesome mountain loop you did. 700+feet???!!! You're very committed and motivated to get up that early. You ran w/o headlamp? I am impressed. You were done running by the time I started mine. You're an inspiration to me. GREAT JOB!!! You're so there for that sub-3 at Boston!!!

From DonGardinero on Sat, Feb 21, 2009 at 18:33:49

Yeah, and he started his run only 45 minutes after I went to sleep....Well, he started hiding water bottles.

From Teena on Sun, Feb 22, 2009 at 17:22:18

That is some serious speed on a 20-miler!! You are seriously on fire PK!! AWESOME!!!

From MarcE on Sun, Feb 22, 2009 at 21:56:34

Great run there Rhett. Anytime you can run that fast for that far, and still be able to knock out the two fastest miles at the finish says lots for your endurance and the shape you're in. Stay healthy and can't wait to see how you do at Boston!

From Smooth on Mon, Feb 23, 2009 at 17:52:51

Rhett, I just read your response on Brain Training. I'm gonna try some of those core workout this week. I like the ideas about afferent feedback and cues for running forms. I have been thinking about my running form more, working on "the belly button to spine". It's hard to constantly think of that during the run.

From rhett on Mon, Feb 23, 2009 at 18:18:42

yeah Smooth, I like how he has you focus on one thing at time with running form. It is hard to concetrate on more than one at a time, but over time they just become natural.

From Teena on Mon, Feb 23, 2009 at 22:39:49 from 67.177.20.13

Okay PK ... I must have missed it. Where is the post on brain-training ... I need MAJOR help with running form ... obviously!!
