It was a glorious morning for a nice hard run.  There was a full moon, no wind, and it was 50 degrees.  I headed out to the island for another attempted mp run.  I've not been happy with my last few mp runs and was hoping today would be different... and it was.

After a mile warm up around 7:30, I picked it up and searched for the comfortable marathon pace (6:40).  I hit a little fast on the first mile, but then settled into a pretty good rythm.  On mile 5 I started to feel like my legs were tying up a bit and I was working to hard and was worried that another mp run was about to fall about.  When I hit the split and looked at my watch I had run a 6:26 for that mile. No wonder I felt like I wa working too hard, I was.  I backed off the pace a bit and got back into my groove.  I was able to finish strong on the last mile at 6:30, finishing 9 marathon paced miles with an AP of 6:37.  I cooled down for a mile at just over 7 min pace and called it a day.

Total run 11 miles, 1:14:31, AP 6:47

I did work harder than I should have been working at mp, but considering I ran a hard 24 miler on Friday, I was very happy with my run today.  I did decide on my Boston strategy while running this morning.  I have decided to run a 6:52 pace through the Newton Hills and then if I'm feeling it, pick up the pace for the last 5 miles.  If not, just try and hold on to that 6:52 pace for a 3 hour marathon.

When I ran Boston, I had a ton of energy after cresting Heartbreak Hill. It was so much fun being able to run strong the last 5 miles while passing tons of people. Sounds like a good strategy. 6:52 is going to feel very easy for you.

I agree with Andy, you are in great shape.

Andy, Paul, Smooth: I hope you guys are right. We'll know in 3 weeks.

Are any of you doing UVM? I worked out my schedule yesterday so that I can do it. Now I just have to sign up.

From Andy on Mon, Mar 29, 2010 at 16:43:33 from 199.190.170.31

I'm not running it but signed up as a volunteer. Hopefully I will see you there.

From Smooth on Mon, Mar 29, 2010 at 22:49:01 from 174.23.251.49

I am running UVM as part of the Grand Slam! I signed up with double discouts (BQ and Slam). It'll be a long run with benefits, like Ogden! Doone should do the Half!

Excellent confidence builder! Nice run.

So glad you're going to run UVM -- we'll definitely have to do a family get-together that weekend. Can't wait to introduce you to my family.

From Rhett on Tue, Mar 30, 2010 at 12:26:32 from 74.32.222.202

It will be fun to see you all at UVM.

Andy, do you know what they are going to be having you do as a voluteer?

Smooth, Doone is going to be staying home for the weekend and enjoying some time alone at home as I will have my kids with me.

Marc, it will be fun to get families together and do something fun. We'll have to talk when we are in Boston and decide what we want to do.

I have no idea yet. I told them that I would like my kids to help as well so I imagine we will be at one of the aid stations.

From timp on Tue, Mar 30, 2010 at 17:26:11 from 144.189.100.25

sounds like a plan, Rhett! Although it sounds like you are in better shape than that. :)
